There you are in a bar and you are making what you think is a love connection. The lights come on and last call is issued. You have two choices you can move along, or you can take her home with you. Of course you would love to bring her home and have more fun there, but you have other things going on in your brain. Hooking up on the first date is something that sounds like a dream, but doesn’t come without problems. Before you decide a one night stand is the way to go, think over all the possibilities of where the relationship could go, or end. There are five good reasons why a guy isn’t into having sex on the first date.

1 – He wants to have a relationship with you
A guy is taught that if he has sex with a girl on the first date it isn’t going to last. If he can have the milk for free, why would he buy it? We are programmed to think that a girl who has sex with us on the first date is somehow tainted by the experience. By not having sex with her on the first date you are telling her that you like her more. You aren’t trying to signal to that you want to have something more than just a one night stand. Being respectful, you are hoping that you two can have something more than just a roll in the hay.

2 – He has a girlfriend
It is alright to spend the night talking to another girl, but when the lights go on, you are starting to feel guilty. Although you are interested, you aren’t willing to cheat on your girlfriend or wife. The light probably made the whole thing real, and her suggesting sex made you realize that you can’t go through with it. The other scenario is that you are in love with someone else. Holding out for Mrs. Right, you are going to wait for the one you love to come around. Don’t feel weak, give yourself kudos for being a stand up guy, even if you did lead her on all night.
 

 
3 – He is wearing dirty underwear
You didn’t think that you were going to get lucky tonight, so when your friends said, “let’s go out” you just grabbed an old pair of underwear and didn’t even think about showering. You are embarrassed by your lack of hygiene and thinks she is worth waiting for. You know that if she sees what you are wearing, or how gross you are underneath, she will second think going out with such a slob again.

4 – She still lives with his Mommy
If you suggest that you want to have a hookup at her place and she is dead set against it, you may have a failure to launch situation on your hands. There are some girls who just can’t seem to leave the comfort of Mommy’s house. The last thing they want is for you two to meet. She is embarrassed that she still lives with her mom, and afraid of how her mom will react when she finds you shacked up together. If she is telling you no to my place, you may have a momma’s girl on your hands. Proceed with caution.

5 – He doesn’t have protection
If it is really late and nothing is going to be open, chances are good that you just didn’t think ahead to protect yourself. That is a good thing that you care enough about yourself, and her, to wait until you can make sure to be safe about things. That puts a gold star in your corner. Often times you are too embarrassed to say that you are missing the prophylactic, so you make up other excuses why you can’t have sex. If you have a condom ready to go, you may want to just skip it anyway and just wait.

There are all sorts of reasons why a guy may not want to hookup on the first date. It isn’t always about not be attracted to the girl. There are many reasons why you should wait until the second date. Sometimes it is just better to take things slowly.
